1. Inguinal Hernia

  • Most common type

  • Seen more in men

  • Lump appears in groin area

2. Femoral Hernia

  • More common in women

  • Bulge near upper thigh

3. Umbilical Hernia

  • Bulge around belly button

  • Common in infants but can occur in adults

4. Incisional Hernia

  • Occurs at the site of a previous surgery

  • Due to weak scar tissue

5. Hiatal Hernia

  • Stomach pushes into chest through diaphragm

  • Causes acidity, chest burning, reflux

Symptoms of Hernia

  • Visible bulge (groin, abdomen, navel)

  • Pain or discomfort, especially while lifting, coughing, standing

  • Heaviness in abdomen

  • Burning or aching sensation

  • For hiatal hernia: acidity, chest discomfort, difficulty swallowing

When Hernia Becomes Emergency

Seek immediate medical help if:

  • Bulge becomes hard, painful, or not reducible

  • Severe abdominal pain

  • Vomiting

  • Redness over bulge
    These may indicate strangulated hernia, which is life-threatening.
